The last four years have been reported in Portugal 284 cases of Legionnaires' disease caused by Legionella bacteria , with the North being one that experiences most situations .

The conclusions of the article, researchers from the Institute Ricardo Jorge attention to the importance of performing an ' active surveillance and epidemiological research' permitting ' rapid identification and control of environmental sources of infection . "
It is further noted that the disease despite being notifiable , is to be underdiagnosed and underreported . Still, the number of cases has been increasing over the past few years , as in the rest of Europe .
